The Field Research and Ethics in Difficult Settings website is a revised and updated version of the original Program on States and Security web community which was established in 2004, with generous grants from the Ford Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Building from the Field Research section of the original Program on States and Security website, the revised Field Research and Ethics in Difficult Settings is solely dedicated to knowledge production on conflict and post-conflict societies through methodically rigorous and ethically sound research practices.
Founded by Susan L. Woodward of the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, the orginial Program on States and Security website harnessed the importance of fostering communication between academic researchers and those who make and implement policy related to state-building, state capacity, and state failure. The content of the Program of States and Security website is archived here.
